BREAKING | SC/ST Bodies Threaten Bigger Protests if Special Quota Law is Not Passed in Winter Session |

The Bharat Bandh was organized on August 21 by the National Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi Organizations (NACDAOR), which is pressing the Indian government to enact legislation protecting SC/ST reservations during the Winter Session of Parliament and place it in the Constitution’s Ninth Schedule. NACDAOR rejects the Supreme Court’s decision, which permits states to subclassify SCs and STs for “quota within quota,” which is why this demand has been made. NACDAOR Chairman Ashok Bharti criticized the government for not doing enough to defend reservations and threatened bigger demonstrations if their demands were not realized. Given that ASPKR leader Chandrashekhar Aazad is organizing a statewide demonstration that will begin on September 11, the unrest is probably going to get worse.
