About The Centre

The Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies (CHRDS) at HPNLU Shimla is a newly established research and advocacy initiative. It is dedicated to exploring human rights concerns, especially those affecting individuals with disabilities, with a particular focus on areas such as healthcare, education, employment, social integration, and access to justice.

About the Opportunity

CHRDS is organizing a Blog Writing Competition centered on the theme “Mental Health, Disability & Rights.” This initiative seeks to encourage thoughtful discussion, enhance awareness, and promote academic engagement with issues at the intersection of mental health, disability, and human rights. The competition welcomes original blog submissions that highlight personal experiences, current challenges, and legal perspectives related to mental well-being and inclusive rights.

Submission Details

Submissions must be made online via the provided link. Entries should be in blog format, with a word count between 1500 to 2000 words. Co-authorship is permitted for up to two individuals. The final date for submission is May 18, 2025.

Formatting & Citation

Participants must use Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing for the main text. Footnotes, if any, should be in Times New Roman, size 10, with single line spacing. Citation must follow the HPNLU Citation Style and only footnotes are allowed.

Suggested Themes (Illustrative Only)

Potential topics include managing mental health in law schools, the overlap between mental and physical disabilities, difficulties in accessing mental health care for persons with disabilities, the need for reasonable accommodations in education and workspaces, dual forms of discrimination faced by individuals with mental health conditions, and the legal framework around mental health and decision-making support.

Recognition

The top three submissions will be featured on the official CHRDS website and awarded Certificates of Merit. All participants will receive Certificates of Appreciation.
