About The Institution

The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University was founded under Act No. 43 of 1997 and was inaugurated by former President Shri K.R. Narayanan on September 20, 1997. Recognized by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC), the university is a member of several national and international academic associations. As the first full-fledged sui generis law university in India, it plays a vital role in advancing legal education in Tamil Nadu, offering programs through its main campus and twenty-seven affiliated colleges. The School of Excellence in Law, established in 2002, offers three-year and five-year law programs, while the university’s Postgraduate Centre and Research Centre offer LL.M., Ph.D., and LL.D. programs across various legal disciplines.

About The Department and Eco-Club

The Department of Environmental Law and Legal Order, which was established in 2006, is a key postgraduate department offering specialized education in environmental law. It has contributed significantly to promoting environmental awareness by organizing national and international conferences, training programs, and collaborations with institutions like the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, the National Biodiversity Authority, and the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services. To meet the increasing demand for environmental law expertise, the LL.M. program in Environmental Law was introduced in 2008, focusing on environmental governance, international treaties, and sustainable development. In 2022, the department founded the Eco-Club, which involves students in activities like clean-up drives and tree planting, promoting environmental responsibility and community engagement.
